Developmental Playgroups

These community-oriented playgroups aim to offer a nurturing environment for safe exploration, socialization, and stimulation for you and your baby. We embrace a baby-led approach, where our only agenda is to observe your baby’s developmental stages, discuss and practice supportive techniques for the moment, and foster a sense of community among babies and their caregivers. We expect babies to be babies, and we invite all grown-ups to experience their inner baby, too, by getting down on the floor and experiencing their world with them. Our playgroups are led by certified Infant Developmental Movement Educators and welcome newborns through new walkers.

Feel free to attend for the full duration or just part of the session—we operate on baby time.

What you can expect at Developmental Playgroups:

  • Gentle guidance for parents on how to support their baby’s natural movement patterns.

  • Observation of infants’ movements to understand their developmental stage and individual needs.

  • Hands-on demonstrations of how to hold, carry, and interact with babies in ways that promote comfort and exploration.

  • Facilitated play activities that encourage babies in the movement they are working on in the moment

  • Open space for babies to explore their surroundings safely, fostering curiosity and body awareness in a clean environment where all toys are safe to be munched on

  • Discussion of infant cues and rhythms, teaching caregivers how to respond to their baby’s signals for movement, rest, or engagement.

  • Community building and a chance to meet other caregivers and babies in your area.

  • A chance to ask questions and get advice on how to support baby’s development at home.

  • A fair bit of chaos if we’re being honest! Part of being baby-led means there is no central guiding action to organize the class. Expect to hear some screeching, crying, chatting, and and banging! If you or your baby are easily over-stimulated we recommend arriving early when it tends to be quieter.

  • Individualized attention in doses as the IDMEs make their way throughout the room making sure to spend intentional time with each baby and caregiver.
